A retired detective is trying to catch a serial killer who uses Russian letters to find his victims.

Petralia, a Neapolitan policeman casually makes friends with Maria, a girl engaged in the smuggling of cigarettes and belonging to the family of Ferdinando Il Barone.

"Perfect Movie Fan" Joe Ruddy is brought to Hollywood as a publicity stunt and put in charge of a production company as a gag, but everybody isn't in on the gag, and Joe imports a notorious gangster, "Buggsy" Malone, to play "himself" in a film based on his life.
