Summary William and Sparkles agree to mind Mary Mary Quite Contrary's prize Petunia while she's on holidays. Mary leaves them with instructions for care of her plant. When Sparkles and William read the instructions they're baffled - they are opposite to normal plant care. William and Sparkles follow them to the letter, as promised. Sure enough, Mary's Petunia starts to wilt. William and Sparkles worry that they will harm Mary's precious plant - until they remember that Mary always says the opposite to what she means! They set about fixing things and Mary comes back from holidays to a healthy, blooming plant and a relieved William and Sparkles!
