The alien 'Master', who was being chased by the space villain 'Spector', accidentally makes an emergency landing on Earth and gets into the body of 'Kola', the most precious doll of 'Carrie'. 'Super Kola' became Carrie's one and only secret friend, thanks to her psychic ability to move objects freely. But the peace is short-lived. Due to the excessive use of superpowers, 'Super Cola' caught on the radar of the 'Spector' gang and is eventually captured by the villain's spacecraft. Phantoms is a single channel video that features 3D animated diamonds containing characters from a previous installation Gilding the Lily. Like Superman trapped in the Phantom Zone, these shards of alter egos tumble and hurdle through a psychedelic vortex. Prominent themes in the work include portals to other worlds, voids and vortexes, entrapment, and the need to break free. This work is a self portrait that celebrates and critiques excess through fantastical post humanist conceptions of reality. The collection of characters in this work are culled from parallel universes, much like daemons or avatars, whose voices merge and intermingle as entrapped splinters of a singular consciousness. Phantoms explores the ubiquitous nature of excess in culture, the permeability of space time, and the fluidity of masculinity.
