Summary An outsized mechanical death machine, the Space Serpent, is causing massive earthquakes and destroying Earth's oil refineries. Mark is sent to investigate with a geologist colleague, who suspects he can locate the source of the problem. The 2 men are caught in a quake and evacuate the building, but the geologist falls into a hole created by the Space Serpent.
