Summary Three thousand years ago in ancient China, an evil Sorcerer gains possession of a powerful flute and uses the mighty creatures under his command to subdue the Emperor and his daughter, the Princess. But his plans are thwarted when the Princess casts a spell on all of them, putting them to sleep for 3,000 years. The flute is lost. Until Justin Harmon, 13, a skateboarder in Venice, California, discovers it among the possessions of his late grandfather who found it on a visit to China, unaware of its powers. Justin plays the flute and becomes commander of a fleet of mythical creatures, including Moby, a baby sea serpent and Angel, a flying phoenix, who are also awakened by the music. Also awakening on the other side of the Pacific are the Princess, her father the wise and noble Emperor -- and the evil Sorcerer, determined to regain his power. The Sorcerer follows the sound of the flute to California atop a pterodactyl. Crashing into a piling on the beach, he is knocked unconscious and awakens with no memory of who he is. The Emperor and Princess also cross the Pacific on their sea horse Won Ton. They find Justin and alert him to the responsibilities he now has and the dangers that await him from the Sorcerer.
