Summary Cappie suspects a link when he hears about his father investigating Vermeer's famous painting 'Girl with Pearl' being stolen from the local museum's exhibition, and a laying card left behind as if a calling-card, just like a set in the tree-house. He enlists wheelchair-ridden nerd classmate Siggy into the tree-house gang, to help work out what the machine is- it types braille. They now mistrust Laurans, so they sneak out when he calls by at the tree-house. The police makes no progress and the mastermind orders a whole series of new robberies from the museum, all from a Russing czar era exhibition, but a Russian henchman now gets caught after setting off the alarm. The police gets a letter in braille from 'pikes king' announcing 'It only just started'.
