Summary The civil war in Russia, 1921. In a small town Revske (Revska prototype, according to the author, was the city Snovsk) grandparents have staying with their grandson, schoolboy from Moscow, Misha Polyakov. He and his friend Genka Petrov accidentally got a dirk that belonged to an officer from the battleship "Empress Maria". The dirk linked with some mystery - a deceased former officer of the battleship - a White Guard, and now the leader of the gang, Valery Sigizmundovich Nikitskiy is also looking for it. Misha's friend, the commander of the Red Army Polevoy tries whatever the cost to save a dirk, and Misha helps him. Misha and Genka go to Moscow.
