Summary Arsène Lupine with the trusted Grognard and the beautiful Clara travels Italy robbing the directors of Banca Ambrosio of their joys, who in turn robbed the savers, and plans to conclude with a great theft to the bank itself. But in the hotel he meets Father Bardolin who gives him a suitcase with documents and is then killed. From the suitcase Lupine learns that Father Bardolin was investigating a theft of Etruscan works of art from the Vatican. Lupine then takes his place and goes to Monsignor Alberoni in Rome. Thus began a series of events involving the Vatican, high fascist leaders and, of course, Commissioner Ganimard.
