Freya is tired and doesn't feel like going into the story, although Pyrus is impatient to get going. Guttenborg suggests inviting one of his chess comrades, Frederik VII, to visit instead. But when he has said the magic words, Countess Danner appears, and she is immediately suspicious of who Freja is. When the king finally arrives, he is scolded by the countess, until Pyrus points out to the particular lady that she is a guest in the goblin's home. It ends with them all singing a famous Christmas carol together.
