It revolves around a disintegrated family, the mother flees from the husband, leaves her home, after he treats her badly, and becomes independent. She begins to work with the aim of securing a decent life for her three children, whose father forces them to work at a young age and deprives them of their right to education. He also forces his daughter to marry early.

About the lives of the police officers, politicians, criminals, government officials and citizens of Hartford, Connecticut. It follows six Uniform Patrol Division officers through their professional and personal lives. At the same time, it reveals the world of the gangs,it's leaders and it's soldiers as they pursue their own dreams of love and power. The streets of the 2nd District are where those two worlds become interlaced. The story follows the lives of two of the main characters, Darrien Cruz, a patrolman, and Phillippe "Sin" Cortez , who is the leader of a powerful gang responsible for most of the shootings and drug trafficking in Hartford. Cruz, who wants to become a narcotics detective, and Sin, a disillusioned career criminal, cross paths. Sin sees an opportunity in becoming an informant for Cruz. He will work for Cruz and Cruz alone. Together, they begin solving homicides and major drug offenses. To do this, Sin must betray the only family he has ever known. Through Cruz and Sin we see the politics, the back stabbing, the honor and betrayal, the kindness and violence, the hate and the love that runs through each man's world. The sameness hidden in the differences of the 2nd District.

Tomomi Morimura is a housewife scorned by her husband and two sons, and yet she continues to protect the family. On her 46th birthday, she leaves home in disgust and embarks on a 1,200 km journey. It is Tomomi's first time driving onto the highway and she speeds along to the west. On the road, she encounters a series of traumatizing episodes. She detects her husband's affair, is faced with a truck driver who mistakes her for a prostitute housewife, and finally her car gets stolen. While Tomomi is at a loss, a good-looking young man and an elderly person give her a ride, and she arrives in Nagasaki. As she meets various people in this town which was once transformed into a wasteland because of the atomic bomb, she becomes aware of a "wilderness" within her and starts to explore the path to rebirth.
