S2.E6 ∙ Last Day on Earth

A fierce succession battle ignites at a newspaper company when the president passes away.

As ratings drop, and the radio station struggles hard to stay afloat in the post-pandemic world, a contestant on the show offers a fresh perspective at life.

Actor Pavel Snajdr (Pavel Simcík) loves the art of improv and stand-up comedy. He enjoys acting in his everyday life too. He is thrilled by any chance to discomfit other people and to create embarrassing situations but people around him find it difficult to bear. Even Pavel's wife Marketa (Klára Melísková) is allergic to his jokes and tries to save their burnt-out relationship at a marriage counselor (Jakub Zácek). When Pavel gets an offer to direct his theatrical debut in a culture club in Olomouc he departs from Prague without hesitation and leaves his failing marriage behind. His beloved grandma (Iva Janzurová) is expecting him in Olomouc, she will co-star in his play. Right after his arrival to grandma's flat Pavel meets her friendly home carer Mikina (Iva Pazderková) who turns out to be one of a few people who get his jokes and is even willing to accept the games Pavel and his grandma love to play. Things do not go very smoothly right from the beginning of Pavel's Olomouc engagement. The head of the culture club Grunt (Miroslav Krobot) cares about his political score more than anything else, he considers culture a pain and does not understand Pavel's sense of humor at all. Pavel is also stalked by a jealous janitor Roman (Roman Vencl). On the other hand, Grunt's flirtatious secretary Renata (Jenovéfa Boková) displays way too much affection for Pavel. But he prefers company of Mikina who turns out to be his important ally. Rehearsals are under way and the opening night is near. But all the preparations hit a snag. There is something wrong with grandma. Just before the big opening Pavel realizes he will have to ease off his ambitions and direct the whole show in a completely different way.

In the midst of a bad economy, Yokoyama, the vice president of Taiyo Real Estate, launches a plan to cut back on his labor force. Fifty employees are segregated into a special assignment division and given an ultimatum: meet a sales goal of 1.5 billion yen within three months or be fired. Spiteful of their unjust treatment, two men, Shinoda and Takigawa, take up the battle against the ruthless Yokoyama.
