Skipper's Gold

Summary As Diver Dan approaches the ship of Skipper Kipper, he sees and hears Skipper singing (Blow the Man Down). Skipper Kipper is also observed by Baron Barracuda and by Trigger Fish. The Baron asserts to Trigger that a sufficient reason for wanting the gold is that they will thus keep others from having it. At the place of Miss Minerva, she, Doc Sturgeon, Finley Haddock, Georgie Porgy, and Sam the Sawfish watch Goldie the Goldfish as she swims in and around her bowl. Doc proudly credits his prescription of gold dust with her cure. Finley suggests that a reserve of such medicine might come in use; and, at the urging of Miss Minerva, he and Georgie leave to get more coins from Skipper. As Dan moves slowly towards the ship, he is passed by Finley and by Georgie; Dan tries to hail them but is unsuccessful. The Baron and Trigger continue to spy upon Skipper, who spots Finley and Georgie as they approach. Finley reports the success of the treatment, and declares the coins to be worth their weight in worms. (As Finley and Georgie report Goldie's recovery to Skipper, the visual cuts briefly to Miss Minerva and a frolicking Goldie.) Skipper is surprised but pleased that the coins aren't simply clutter. Finley tells him that Goldie would be a poor fish without them. The Baron overhears this remark, and tells Trigger that neither of them wants to be a poor fish, and so they must have the gold. Finley explains that Doc has said that they should keep a few coins at hand; Skipper goes to get a couple more for them. The Baron tells Trigger that they must watch for a chance, and then sneak up on the other party to get all the gold. He tells Trigger that he is to sneak into the ship after Finley and Georgie have left; the Baron notes that the Skipper is old and weak. Skipper brings two coins to Finley and Georgie. The Baron and Trigger slink. Finley and Georgie, each with a coin, leave. Skipper asserts to himself that it appears that the weather is to worsen. The Barons tells Trigger to act on his signal.\ The narrator asks whether Skipper will close the port hole in time to prevent Trigger from entering.
