At the beginning of the 2000s, Hagamannen of Umeå was one of the country's most feared serial rapist. For a period of eight years, he raped eight women resulting in one of the largest criminal investigations in Swedish history.

Unbeknownst to many, Dave Navarro is a trauma survivor of the highest order. A story of navigating the human experience, Dave faces his deepest fears as he embarks on a journey through art, drug addiction, and escapism. Through revelations from friends and family, to police and FBI, he uncovers the hard truth of domestic violence as he searches for paths to come to terms with his mother's brutal murder.

University graduate students and prison inmates meet weekly to discuss literature and share personal essays and stories. Classroom sessions and interviews explode the stereotypes of brutish convicts, out-of-touch scholars and callous prison staff, while offering viewers a sense of hope. Shot on location in a minimum-security facility in Wisconsin, this feature-length documentary pays homage to the power of the humanities, the art of teaching and the possibility of redemption for those shunned by society.
