'das Almas' is a poetic and ethereal documentary on a fishing village on the Northeast of Brazil, where the fishermen, who have an unique method of fishing, are split between their work at the sea and the legends of the Palestine Milaide Tahim, who achieved popular beatification.

Filmed and edited over a five year period of time, and shot across several states from the Midwest to the Northeast to the South, Hayes' film is an experimental documentary in the form of a dreamscape.

Something truly fantastic is happening here in Santa Cruz. This film documents the creative imagination bursting forth from students attending UCSC's class Prophecy Against Empire, from a contemporary dance beneath the redwood trees, to a rejuvenation of Logos Bookstore. It is about an intellectual adventure with ancient roots that bloomed in the 1960s with figures like Santa Cruz's own Norman O. Brown, and recently culminate with the study of the poet William Blake.
