Na ceste po Addu

Summary With Jiri Bartoska and Miroslav Donutil to the Maldivian atoll, where each palm tree has its owner and to whose shores mantas sail for purification. Addu is the southernmost Maldives atoll, the only one lying along the equator. This is where the Islamization of the islands began, and the later strong British presence provided the locals with a quality education. As a result, they now occupy important places throughout the island nation. As in the whole of the Maldives, Addu emphasizes ecology and a gentle approach to the ocean. They must not be built from sea corals and tuna are caught only with rods; networks are taboo. Tough rules also apply to the operation of tourist resorts. The obligation is our own treatment plant, water production and complete recycling of all waste, including exports for processing to India. There is a shortage of trees in the Maldives and palm trees have a special status. Each has its owner and identification number. They used to be used to build ships, but today timber from Malaysia is imported for construction. Or, for example, laminate is used. Today, tourism is also reviving traditional professions, such as the production of palm-leaf roofs. Palm trees strengthen the mainland, which is a must in the case of atolls. But even that does not solve the future of the Maldives. The country's highest point is just two meters above sea level, so any climate change could have a fatal impact on the island's future.
