It turned out that the NVA were dug in a bit further on the trail. A pal of Ruiz tripped a wire and was killed. He was high on heroin. Sent to chill out with Sgt. Ecksley in supply, Ruiz discovered that Ecksley was selling Army goods in the black market and enabling soldiers to score heroin through the local drug lord. General Goldman saw more "truth" than he anticipated and realized that this war is not the same as previous wars.
