Gilberto Bosques, people who knew him and those he rescued, describe the actions that took place between 1939 and 1942 in Marseilles, when he was the Mexican Consul General to France, and saved tens of thousands of Spanish republicans, Jews, socialists, communists and other people persecuted by the fascist Nazis.

This film follows Marine Corps veterans after their deployment, dealing with life as a civilian as well as the family of Sgt Cesar B Ruiz, and their dedication to his young son and widow. It was filmed over the course of a five week, 10,000 mile road trip across the United States by two Marine Corps veterans who served with Sgt Ruiz.

In the daily life of 68 year-old Tascha in New York, her deceased mother Enny is still conspicuously present. The death of Enny's first two daughters, 70 years earlier at Auschwitz, seems to make a painfull and unbreakable link between Enny and Tascha. The filmmaker follows both his aunt Tascha as his step grandmother Enny, shortly before she passes away. At the age of 97, Enny surprises him with pre-war footage of her first daughters Glenda and Myrna.
