Summary Chalicotherium is a huge mammal that became extinct less than for million years ago so it may have co-existed with early humans. Still it's something of a mystery. It's body plan of shot legs and long arms suggests it spent most of its day sitting and eating like the much smaller panda or gorilla. But it seems to be related to horses and their kin which have a very different life style.
