S1.E3 ∙ The Superbug Era

This film consists solely of 8mm and 16mm film taken by players and fans from 1934 to 1957. All but a few minutes of the film are in color. Included is color footage of past major league players and ballparks, many of the parks now defunct. Also included are literary readings, remembrances by former players, and baseball related music.

This is the story of the invention of penicillin and the scientists behind the work. The main character, Howard Florey, races against time to create his magic bullet that will ultimately save the lives of thousands of soldiers during the second world war and win him the Nobel prize. It is a story of intrigue, suspense and bitter rivalry, set mainly in Oxford, England during World War Two.

Luku Ngarra is an unflinching, indigenous Australian Aboriginal funded documentary on the history and culture of Arnhem Land leading up to the present day, seen through the eyes of one of Australia's most respected Indigenous elders and traditional lawmen, the Reverned Doctor Djiniyini Gondarra OAM. Set mainly in the remote community of Elcho Island, the film is a timely challenge to the dominant mainstream paradigm that has failed to recognise the true value and importance of traditional Aboriginal law and culture for the wellbeing of remote communities.

History Through Deaf Eyes will take a look at Deaf culture from the 19th century to the present. The 120 minute production for PBS will include short films.
