Summary Catalina is an 82-year old woman, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is the center of a family which learned the trade of making tortillas for pleasure, as a tradition, out of necessity, because there's no other option, because that's what I have to do. At a very early age Catalina was faced with the need to learn the trade known as tortillería; in other words, she learned to make tortillas by hand, at a time when the tortilla was a staple, and by far the best option for the majority of Mexicans, in a diet, combined with beans, chili peppers - and with luck the occasional meat dish - as their preferred daily fare.
