Summary Since the time of the Pyramids in Egypt, to the Pantheon of ancient Greece, architecture has been one of humanity's most visible and long-lasting forms of expression. In the most recent decades, a new vision for design is emerging. One that not only looks at our building's form but also pushes the composition of the way they function. Intelligent design in nature has perfected itself over hundreds of millions of years, so, why aren't we using more of its principals? Why can't building materials be more adaptable? Why can't they function more like clothing, or even human skin? A biology major at Princeton University turned architect, Doris Kim Sung is using smart materials to turning the fields of engineering, architecture, and design on its head.
