Summary Xenon is produced as a by-product of the purification of oxygen and nitrogen from air. In a landmark reaction in 1962 Neil Bartlett produced xenon platinum hexafluoride. Prior to his experiment the noble (inert) gases which include Xenon were though to be totally nonreactive.
