Peru: Children to the Rescue

Summary In Peru, there is the largest city in the world, Inquitos, to which no land road leads. You can get there only by plane or by boat. Belén - the poorest district of the city, is flooded with Amazon waters for six months. This results in many problems for the local community, such as drowning and diseases related to water pollution. When the river level is raised, most of the waste is discharged directly into the river. In such water, people wash clothes and dishes. Children from Belén have problems getting to school or finding a safe place to play. The employees of the INFANT organization support them by implementing actions aimed at changing the surrounding reality. These include "Children to the rescue" project, which involves patrolling places where there are children who cannot swim, or organizing swimming lessons for the youngest. Children are also involved in the fight against domestic violence.
