S2.E3 ∙ Stem Cells Give Paralyzed Man Movement

For years, the mountain is moved between two countries (Brazil and China), Romulo, an ex-mineworker and now a sailor, heads into his first journey taking part of the mountain towards another one. Through the vast sea he meets other travellers and, in feverish moments he encounters his memories and the spirit of the earth. In an everyday living permeated by unknown languages, these conversations in are never left misunderstood. This way, Romulo will face slow days in the immense ocean to the other continent.

Seine Bauwerke und Plastiken erregen heute noch Aufmerksamkeit, ihr Erschaffer ist jedoch nahezu vergessen: der Bildhauer und Architekt Bernhard Hoetger. Hoetger zählt zur Avantgarde des frühen 20. Jahrhunderts. Zahlreiche Mäzene kann er für sich gewinnen. So lässt Ludwig Roselius von ihm Teile der Bremer Böttcherstraße entwerfen. In Worpswede prägt er das Bild, das die Besucher heute mit dem Künstlerdorf verbinden. Hoetger verschlägt es Mitte der 1920er Jahre auf einen 'nordischen' Weg. Trotz seiner völkischen Ideen lässt Adolf Hitler die Werke Hoetgers als 'entartet' einstufen. In dem Film kommen Experten*innen und historische Weggefährt*innen (von Schauspieler*innen dargestellt) zu Wort, deren Schilderungen auf Originalzitaten der historischen Personen beruhen. So vermischen sich fiktionale Elemente mit dokumentarischen Aufnahmen, Archivmaterialien und Kunstwerken.

It tells about the persistence of a young boy in chasing after his vision, against the strong currents of his deprived and orphaned youth. And, as he transitions into a self-made man, his indomitable spirit drives him to the attainment of his dream. Dimalupig is an advocacy film that pays tribute to and depicts the heart and soul of the Filipino seafarer. It is a unique genre of its own, being an inspiring and educational story about a fictional character, but surrounded by real people, and real events, making it a combination of both documentary and dramatic narrative. This is a first in the history of Philippine seafaring industry that an advocacy film about the Filipino seafarers has been made. It is about time that the youth learns about the unsung heroes in this country, and what the 'hidden' maritime industry is all about.

In the film, couples, whose love is put to a special test, give us insight into their lives. One partner of each couple is not originally from Europe and the lovers find themselves confronted with immigration law and its impact. The director combines very different facets into an exciting, very moving and strongly expressive documentary mosaic. A compelling, filmic plea for love without borders.
