At 83 years of age, Atillo is the last living member of the famed Balintawak Self Defense Club founded in 1952. He has studied with the original Filipino Grandmasters, fought in four full-contact challenge "death matches" with no protective gear, and banged sticks with some of the biggest names in the Filipino martial arts. His style is sought out to learn from students that travel from around the world to train with him personally or his official masters / qualified instructors. Atillo teaches stick-to-stick spar drills, followed by stick-and-hand spar drills that appear as flow drills or combinations of patterns that eventually become automatic breaking away into virtually infinite possibilities and nuances that can be applied to other weapons such as knives and swords as well as open hands - all of which are designed to foster his specialty, sparring, which is essential to developing fighters. This is why his style wins death matches.
