Summary Burbank used to be known as the Rancho Providencia. but in late February of 1845 you would have seen cannons and muskets being fired across the Los Angeles River. Average men rose to the occasion to assist in the revolt that would unseat a tyrannical governor, and replace him with Pío de Jesus Pico, a first generation Californian, who to many, was the face of democracy. After this battle, Pío Pico would become the LAST Governor of Mexican California. But he was the FIRST to be elected. Not by ballot - But by war.
