S1.E1 ∙ End of Innocence

This historical documentary presents the background story to the making and testing of the first H-bomb. It contains rare archival film as well as notable contributions from many of the principal participants in the hydrogen bomb saga. The story is traced onwards from the first atomic bomb drops on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August 1945, through the Russian nuclear blast of September 1949 to the eventual successful detonation of a so-called thermo-nuclear device in the Pacific in November 1952 and the first full-scale H-bomb test in Bikini, in 1954.

In our post-9/11 world with its "War on Terror," will the same errors be made - as occurred in the Cold War - whose effects linger and fester long after the conflict is over? Three Americans travel to Cuba (to immerse themselves in a culture with which the U.S. all but prohibits commercial contact) and realize they cannot visit Cuba only for its music; that the American Embargo and the storied Bay of Pigs fiasco dominate everything.

The documentary covers the reasons that lead to the Great Northern War in the 18th century, and how the battles spread from Europe to Finland, Southern Ostrobothnia, Isokyrö. After the battles had subsided, an unforeseen terror against the civilian population began, and from Ostrobothnia it spread over the whole area of Finland. These days that terror carries the name Greater Wrath.

Military service in Israel is compulsory for all able-bodied Jewish men and women. Once their years of service is up they are granted a bonus which many use to travel to India to wind down and recover from their experiences. About 90 per cent of them will use drugs during their travels and every year about two thousand of them will require professional help to recover from this drug use. The extreme psychotic break these people experience is commonly referred to as "flipping out".
