Summary There were two finalist in the United States competition for a supersonic transport to surpass the Concorde. Ultimately the selection committee chose the Boeing 2707 because it had more edgy technology over the Lockheed L-2000 which was deemed to safe and simple. Ironically, Boeing eventually abandoned the features that had won it the contract and failed to produce a flying prototype before funding was pulled.
