Le boeuf musqué à la conquête du Nanuvik

Summary -A beautiful dream. Some 15 muskoxen were captured on Ellesmere Island and brought to Nunavik in the 1960s. But the Kuujjuaq breeding farm project aborted and the animals were released back onto the land. Today, there are more than 7,000 muskoxen in Northern Quebec (in Canada), and this rapid expansion is causing concern among the Inuit. Is the imposing mammal harming the migratory caribou, a sacred symbol for Nunavik communities? The Quebec Ministry of Wildlife is now measuring its impact on this northern ecosystem. But for many Inuit hunters, the case is clear: the muskox is an intruder. Other communities see the large herbivore as an opportunity to develop the territory's new wildlife resource.
