S1.E4 ∙ Copland and the American Sound

Opposite the Oval cricket ground, a group of teenagers meet twice a week to rehearse a play. Over the course of nine months, they piece together a vision of an enchanted island, ruled by Shakespeare's wizard king. The process ends with a performance of one of the most emblematic works of a culture far removed from the world we now inhabit. Shakespeare's last play is about desert islands and mythical beasts. Using a blend of drama and documentary, the film follows the kids' progress as they stage the play, building a portrait of the contradictions of what it means to be British in this brave new world.

Kiera, a determined young woman and quadruple amputee since childhood, fights against stereotype and physical expectations as she fulfills her desire to dance and choreograph. All the while, her younger sister Uriah, who has long been both muse and best friend, struggles with the need to fulfill her own independent life and identity. Filmmaker Susan Hess Logeais is drawn into their journey, documenting the strain on their relationship as they pursue their separate paths and grow apart. In the end, their shared love of dance draws the sisters back together, healing their deep bond.

This documentary wants to pay homage to the families and the people who survived the concentration camps (with an emphasis on the Spaniards who were there) and also to those who weren't, and to all those who believe that evil comes in many forms, and one of them uses the swastika as a symbol.

Touchdown Israel, a feature length documentary presents the broad religious and cultural diversity that is Israel, and illustrates how sports can be both metaphor and unifier for the world around it. American football has set down real roots in the holy land. The playing levels vary widely, but the cast of characters is utterly compelling, Israeli Jews, Arabs and Christians as well as Americans living in Israel, and religious settlers. Interview subjects include league sponsor and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Touchdown Israel brings light to Israels complex, multifaceted society, offering a view of the human aspect of Israeli life, including the values of teamwork, unity, sacrifice and excellence.

Tumba-Tarzan, born Rolf Eskil Johansson (1925-1978) was a Swedish burglar who became nationally known in 1954 when he was on the run from the police for more than half a year. During the first half of the 1950s, a wave of burglary rinsed over Södertörn, Stockholm. The guilty were the Johansson brothers in the so-called Tumbaligan. After escaping prison, Tumba-Tarzan and his wife Alice lived in the forests on Södertörn and Roslagen for a few months. They were chased by police, military, dogs and helicopters. Yet they managed to get away.
