Summary The Cowichan river flows for 47 kilometers from Lake Cowichan to the Pacific Ocean on the Island of Vancouver. It was opened up to non-native settlers in the mid-nineteenth century. Teaming with fish it quickly became a mecca for sport fishing as well as logging. Local residents describe the decline of the river and current efforts to preserve its habitats as many plant and animal species that are declining in the rest of the province are found along the river.
