Schoondochters & Soldaten

Summary In Tadjikistan, Ruben talks to and about young men and boys, who live in fear of or have suffered the 'oblava', the seasonal press-ganging -anywhere, even at once's wedding- to enlist in the army, where hazing is so brutal and violent that many suffer lasting injury or even die. Even members of the national football team aren't safe, only those without brothers, many hide abroad, often working in Russia. In Uzbekistan, Jelle visit a 'finishing school', where future brides are prepared for married life as virtual slaves of the family in law, where they must move in and are generally terrorized by the matriarchal mother in law, while her husband stands by and her own family refuses to take her back as utter shaming.
