Summary The women feel like they can connect to their husbands and partners in their next venture, which is to record a song which will be played over the radio at the base in Afghanistan. Because singing in a choir has been such a valuable experience for the women, Gareth wants to expand by forming another choir of wives/partners at a naval base in Plymouth, the first connection being a small group of the Chivenor choir performing for the Plymouth wives. Two issues arise from this plan. The first deals with a timing problem, about which Gareth consults the Chivenor choir for their first hand experience. The second deals with an unexpected confidence issue with the Chivenor women after that experience. Gareth feels he needs to do something to overcome that latter issue, which is a joint performance in Plymouth. One of Gareth's primary goals is to make the choir(s) an integral part of the British military system. As such, he arranges for the choirs to perform for the military elite at Sandhurst. This opportunity stretches the choirs' vocal experience to date from the popular to classical, specifically Latin, and provides Gareth with what he feels is the venue to get one chorister in particular out of her shell completely. He admits that the performance at Sandhurst is unlike anything he has ever experienced in his life.
