Summary In 1945 the German submarine U-864 was ferrying flasks of mercury and plans for the Me-262 jet fighter and Me-163 Komet to Japan. Shortly out of it's home port of Bergen Norway its snorkel malfunctioned. The commander chose to return for repairs but was detected by Submarine HMS Venture. After a three hour underwater pursuit Venture sunk U-864 by torpedo in its home waters.
