Africa's bushfires

Summary Fires in the African Bushveld surge through the grasslands destroying everything in their path and leaving the landscape charred and black. Although they bring death and destruction these blazing infernos are not all bad- in the wake of the fire new plants grow fed by the nutrient-rich ash. Herbivores thrive on the fresh vegetation. Too many bushfires however can kill the landscape completely-thus it is up to reserves like the Kruger National Park to make sure they are kept under control.
