Summary 500 years ago the arrival of Hernán Cortés to Mesoamerica, had the impact of a cataclysm. His army, formed by a little over 400 soldiers was the first of a series of attacks, which would transform the cultures that inhabited what we now call Mexico. The languages and literatures of these peoples were confronted, threatened and forbidden; ancient myths and forms of consciousness changed skin to face the great course of Christian and Renaissance traditions.
