Summary Reba Zitella Whittle was a American flight nurse in World War Two. Flight nurses were in command of medical evacuation flights from war zones. As the C-47s were used for both military and medical missions they did not carry Red Cross insignia, hence several were shot down including Reba's last flight. She was captured by the German's, treated for injuries, politely interrogated and assigned to Stalag IX-C to help treat injured POWs. But, as their only female POW the German's found it more convenient to repatriate her four months later.
