Summary Beginning of the journey in Valparaiso: Jérôme has taken a funicular railway and has arrived at a terrace where he meets the chef Cristian Gomez: they enjoy the panorama (the Pacific Ocean, the colored houses of Valparaiso) and begin their walk in the Cerro Alegre: they look at the Baburizza Palace build in 1916 (Pascual Baburizza was famous Croatian investor in the saltpeter mines and in 1971 the government bought the Palace and transformed it into a museum).Then they cross the Paseo Atkinson, the neighborhood of the British immigrants (also saltpeter mines owners).In a corner they listen to a singer and a guitarist singing a song dedicated to Valparaiso. Later they go to the Playa Caleta Portales where Christian buys usually congers, they go to the pier where a man throws fish scraps to the sea lions.Later they take a trolleybus and walk in the Cerro Alegre: they meet there the muralist Oscar Gonzales Guache and talk about urban art in Valparaiso.Finally they arrive at the Restaurant Circular where Cristian prepares a "caldillo de congrío" that they enjoy and drink "Big Fish" white wine from the Casablanca Valley. After that Jérôme travels to Curarrehue where he meets François Barreau, the geographer, hiking guide and farmer: Jérôme meets then Benita Panguilef Ayelef (the mother-in-law of François): in this Mapuche community there are 95 Mapuche families: Benita explains that the community has opened its doors to the tourists.Then François and Jérôme have a walk through the monkey puzzle tree forests: they notice also the Spanish moss (Tillandsia usneoides) on the trees, at 1.600 meters above sea level there reach a lagoon, drink mate and eat duck foie gras. Back to the community they meet Fabiola Panguilef Aylef, François's wife: they visit the monkey puzzle tree nursery and the ducks farm: finally all the family meet at the Ruka Trankurra (the traditional community house) for a supper : "asado" of sheep and fried bread : a moment of friendliness between the family, some neighbors and Jérôme.After that Jérôme travels to Puerto Varas at the Llanquihue lake where he meets Maritza Paz Gayardo Hernandez, they cross the town looking at the huge church built by the German immigrants and arrive at the rafting camp: Richard Carrier explains that Maritza has great experience in rafting (the female rafting team) and they go rafting on a river. After that Jérôme arrives at Castro in the Chiloe Island where he meets Kiervi Geffroy, they have a look on the town (the wooden church, the stilts houses) and on the seaside (gulls) , later they go to a small island: they meet there two beekeepers who show Jérôme the ulmo honey ( the ulmo-Eucryphia cordifolia- has flowers with a highly appreciated aromatic nectar and then the commercialized honey is called ulmo honey). In the evening the beekeepers, Kiervi and their families will cook food in an earth oven: mussels and also potatoes stuffed with pork rind: they all enjoy this moment of friendliness. Besides we see zooms about the Hostal Po, about the 5th firemen company, about the draftsman Tierry Defert, about the vineyards of the Casablanca Valley, about the Mapuche culture at Lautar (The Señorita Rosita and her cultural work), about Condorito (the famous Chilean comic book) and about the Andean condor (the very useful carrion-eater), about the restoration and maintenance of the wooden churches in Chiloe and about the the mutual aid between the inhabitants of Chiloe.
