Summary Beginning of the journey in Monterosso (Liguria): Sophie goes to a pastry shop and buys chocolate pastry with limoncello (lemon liquor) inside: it's a small gift for Giuseppe Martelli (called Beppé), a fisherman of Monterosso.Beppé explains that Montrosso and 4 other villages of the Cinque Terre (Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore) are in a protected area (Unesco world heritage site): Beppé and Sophie walk through the village and arrive at a promenade where they can the little beach of Monterosso and the seaside.Then Sophie travels to Polesine Parmense (near Parm in Emilia-Romagne): she meets there Massimo Spigaroli, a chef and producer of the "culatello ham": Massimo shows her the pigs, they have a walk near the old Palace of the family Pallavicino (built in 1320): then in the Hosteria del Maiale Massimo shows Sophie how he prepares the culatello ham: later they go a cellar where the culatello hams are stored.Finally Massimo gives Sophie a basket with bread and culatello ham that she must taste near the Po River: there Sophie meets men at a table (they are playing cards) and she shares with them the bread and the ham.Then Sophie is in Modena where she meets Daniele Bonfantti, the producer of balsamic vinegar : the walk through the center and look at the 87 meters high Torre Ghirlandina: then they go to the estate: they look at the vineyard (Gilberto Barbier , the associate of Daniele is in charge of the vineyard) and then in the factory they smell an old balsamic vinegar.Daniele leads Sophie to a workshop where Franco Bacchelli is repairing classic collection cars.Franco invites then Sophie to a ride with a Ferrari F-355 Berlinetta.Then Sophie travels to Bologna where she meets Matteo Giovanardi, the owner of the tower Prendipante: they climb the tower and enjoy the sight over the red town (red clay buildings).Later Sophie meets Christina Fortina: they buy fresh parsley in the market and arrive at Christina's house where they will prepare tortellini (stuffed with ricotta, Parmesan cheese, parsley and nutmeg): at supper they eat the tortellini and drink red wine.After Sophie travels to Rimini where she meets Diego Donzelli and his family (Loris and Carla) who manage the Hôtel de Paris (ambiance of the sixties): Diego and Sophie have a walk (the beach and the Borgo San Giulano where there are wall painting of the characters of Federico Fellini).Then Sophie is in Ravenna with Arianna Gallo , a mosaicist who shows her the Mausoleo of Galla Placidia and there her workshop (Luca Barberini, Arianna's husband is also mosaicist).Finally Sophie goes to Florence, she looks for the neighborhood of Santo Spirito where she meets the calcio storico team (the Whites).On the next day Sophie is on the Piazza Santa Croce : there are drummers and men in typical costumes and then the match of the team of Santo Spirito against that one of Santa Croce: victory of the Whites and Sophie ends his journey looking at the Ponte Vecchio in Florence. Besides we see zooms about the monastery of Monterosso, about the wine maker of Manarola, about the production of Parmigiano reggiano, about the Panini stickers and Panini family, about Bologna (its university, the students; about the private beach in Rimini (the deckchairs and the beach umbrellas, the festival of the Sardines, the techno music) and about the story of the calcio storico.
