Summary Beginning of the journey in Shanghai: Raphaël meets Thomas Chabrieres, a tour operator using a sidecar motorcycle.They stop at the Bund, on the promenade Thomas explains the story of the Bund, the British business neighborhood and they go to the "Maison du thé" where they drink a jasmine tea.Later Raphaël is in Zhengzhou: he meets Li Ying Zhang, a female TV presenter who will his guide: they go near a construction site and she explains the growth of this town of 6 millions of inhabitant: they go to a night market where people enjoy food: they taste "baozi" and insects.On the morning they meet Shi Han Zhang, a 8 years old girl who is ping pong player, they go to ther place of training , a very impressive training. Zhengzhou has its own gastronomy: we meet Wei Chen, a famous Chinese chef who goes to the market looking for products (yams) and then near the Yellow River to buy carps: in one of his 10 restaurants he prepares the carp in sweet and sour sauce. Zhengzhou is also famous for the Yu opera in which men play feminine roles: we meet Dezhi Lian, an opera singer and his mentor Meiling Hu, a former yu opera singer who explain that the Yu opera treats about the traditions of the Henan Province. Then Raphaël goes to the Shaolin Temple where he meets the shaolin master Shi Yan Lun who explains why this place is very important: it's the first Zen Buddhist temple in China, the monks developed the kung fu to defend themselves against enemies and later they developed the traditional Chinese medicine (acupuncture).The temple received 25 African interns who who will improve their kungfu abilities. Later Raphaël goes to the village of Qianbaiyangcun near Zhengzhou (2.000 inhabitants): there his guide Zhao Yinghui invites Raphaël to the Moon Festival in her family, they buy mooncakes and then Raphaël helps Zhao's mother to prepare dumplings: the 4 generations of the family are enjoying the dumplings and mooncakes with Raphaël. Then Raphaël returns by high speed train to Shanghai where his guide will be Li Song, an interpreter of businessmen: they go to the old part of Shanghai: small buildings, narrow streets, families breeding tortoises (symbol of longevity) and a market for insects (the people organize locust fights) and for bird (pets): then they go the Pudong district : they see three great skyscraper: the Jin Mao Tower (422 meters high), the Shanghai World Financial center (492 meters high and the Shanghai Tower which will be 600 meters high: they decided to go to the Jin Mao Tower: at the sky walk (indoor observation deck with glass floor) they enjoy a beautiful sight over the Bund.Later Li Song has a surprise for Raphaël: a foot massage based on acupressure (some precise points in the foot have a relation with precise parts of the human anatomy). Besides Shanghai is a Chinese which attract some French people like Christophe Hisquin called Dantès, a French singer who sings in Mandarin or Aurélien Pasquier, a young French architect who is working in Shanghai.Zhang Zheng Hai , a Chinese baker who has studied in France is now training Chinese bakers who will produce baguette, croissant and French pastries for the restaurants of Shanghai.
