Summary Ben leaves the jungles to Lower Congo. First he stops to admire the mighty Kongo river, which amasses water from nine countries, enough if dammed to power a third of Africa with hydro-energy. Despite the powerful current, fishermen dive there, but their catch is plummeting badly due to environmental deterioration. The journey end sin capital Brazzaville, housing a third of then national population, across the stream facing still much larger Kinshasa, capital of war-torn big neighbor DR Congo (ex-Belgian, ex Zaire). There he meets the Sapeurs, a bizarre society of local dandies who design their own, absurdly extravagant frock. No less flamboyant and bizarre are the outfits and rituals of the local obsession, catch wrestling in a weird superstitious version.
