Sign Language Theatre

Summary Sign Language theatre has recently come to the forefront of commercial theatre through the acclaimed Broadway production of Spring Awakening which is performed simultaneously in American Sign Language and spoken English. However, beginning with vaudeville acts in deaf clubs (in the early part of the 20th century) to the work at National Theatre of the Deaf and Gallaudet University, deaf actors and creative team members have produced incredible theatrical experiences for both deaf and hearing audiences. Follow members of the cast of Spring Awakening, Gallaudet University, and others as they explore the creative process, the history, and the joy that comes from sign language theatre.
