Driftless (2017) is a film that is the product of friendship. Two friends, one in front of the camera, one behind, spend 2 years together, as one endures what adds up to be the hardest year of their life. This film does not aim to account for the dramatic life events which cause some of what the film does witness, it does not focus on gender transition, Lyme Disease, or any of the interpersonal dynamics which cause great stress in my friend's life as a central subject. What it does aim to account for is the proximity of friendship. Through our relationship, which is not always disguised in favor of a more continuous edit, we are able to bear witness to another way of life, one of the homesteader, the artist, the queer parent. The camera becomes a way to hold my friend through their troubles and their joys as they manage their search for home.

One Band Indivisible is an intimate portrait of the trials and tribulations of the students in a the charismatic show-style high school marching band of an historically African-American high school in Durham, North Carolina. The documentary focuses on four students and captures hot summer band camps, nerve wracking auditions, the routine of practices, the excitement of half time shows at football games, glittering national championships and the fan fare of street parades. Funding is tough but the parents make it happen, and the band director pulls it all together.

This documentary tells the powerful story of a fully involved teen father and dedicated teen mother in search of ways to navigate the waters between their needs as teenagers and their responsibilities as 14 year old parents.
