In ihrem zweiten Fall jagt die Hamburger Kriminalhauptkommissarin den mutmaßlichen Mörder Felix Brenner (Luis Pintsch), der bei einem Haftprüfungstermin entkommen ist. Nach einer Schießerei im Gericht kämpft ein JVA-Beamter mit dem Tod. Die dramatische Flucht platzt ausgerechnet in jenen Tag, an dem für Katharina und ihren Mann Volker (Florian Stetter) die erste Sitzung ihrer Paartherapie stattfinden soll. Vorgeworfen wird Brenner der Mord an der Lehrerin Patrizia Oelrich. Damals leitete Katharinas Kollege Georg König (Stephan Szász) die Ermittlungen, doch sie wird das Gefühl nicht los, dass er ihr etwas verheimlicht. Verteidigerin Moira Brenner (Phenix Kühnert), die Zwillingsschwester des Angeklagten, ist dagegen davon überzeugt, dass ihr Bruder unschuldig ist und dass er nur deshalb geflohen sei. Die Ermittlungen führen Katharina Tempel schließlich zu einem Geheimnis, das vor 15 Jahren eine ganze Familie zerrüttet hat.
