College sweethearts Julie and Ives have planned to marry. Their plans go amiss when Julie meets a weak writer and runs off to marry him. After her husband dies, she's left in Paris, penniless and with a daughter to support. She decides to return to her home town with the intent to renew her romance with Ives. His family and a scheming co-ed vow to avert a reunion of the two...

The three main characters are Michal, an airplane mechanic, Marie, a fashion designer, and ten-year-old Honzík, who form a seemingly happy, well-adjusted family. Michal goes out with his son to fly aeronautical models, while his mother works on her designs and they spend weekends together at the cottage by the pond. However, the first moments of unrest, caused mainly by the workload of the ambitious Marie, start to creep into the peaceful relationship. She is currently preparing the costumes for a stage play. It is her first job for the theatre and since she wants to make a name for herself in this field, the result is important to her. She finds it hard to bear that her designs have not been received with enthusiasm, and she is slowly starting to get into a time crunch.

Muniyandi (Sreenivasan), a laborer in the farm, believes and respects Shivakami (Smita Patil). Muniyandi brings Shivakami to the farm after marrying her. She soon befriends Shankaran (Gopi). But one day Muniyandi catches Shankaran red-handed with his wife Shivakami. Broken hearted, Muniyandi commits suicide. The extreme feeling of guilt forces Shankaran to leaves the place. He tries alcohol, spirituality and all other possible methods to escape from this mental torment, but fails. Finally he reaches the temple town of Chidambaram. There he finds Shivakami as a shoe keeper in the temple.

A young woman who dreams of leaving small village life to live in the city breaks away from her grandmother's home only to be drawn into the care of her grandfather's mountain rooibos plantation.
