During the Spanish War of Independence (1808-1814), a group of guerrillas must cross the mountain range and dodge the French to deliver an important message. Soon a new guerrilla joins the party while it is discovered that among them there is a traitor.
When the villagers migrate to the city because of poverty, Muhtar Hussein buys their goods cheaply. Only Mehmet does not sell his property. Hussein will get rid of him.
After the arrest of his mother, who is accused of collaboration, 14-year-old Theo decides to go join his grandfather in Paris. On the road he meets Marie, an 11 year old orphan.
