Summary Canoe was created by digitally redrawing 1800 frames. The moving figure is replaced with the background of the image, which is water and sky. In the final animation the canoeist is barely visible, seamlessly melded to the moving water and sky. Commissioned by the City of Vancouver Public Art Program, Canoe premiered on the CBC Vancouver video screen, near the Georgia Street Viaduct. This work marks the entrance to the Salish Sea, via False Creek. The name Salish Sea is now officially recognized in the US (2009) and Canada (2010). It includes the Georgia Strait, Strait of Juan De FICA, and Puget Sound. This work connects the contemporary city scape to the water-based traffic of both historic and contemporary times.
