Summary Two brothers take to Stockers Wood of a Saturday afternoon, to build a den and do some birdwatching. Their day takes a surprising turn when a car is dumped in the woods. Curious, David investigates the boot of the car. What he finds is a suitcase of clothes and identification. Soon afterwards, the men on the identification appear to pick up the car, and discover the two boys have been spying on them. The two men are prison escapees, who are keen to get away and beat the police roadblocks. They decide to use the boys to convey the impression they are all related and go through the roadblocks.
