My Life Is A Lie

My Life Is A Lie

"How many of you out there feel like you just can't win? Like fate is standing in your way? Like every time God closes a door he opens a window...only for you to find that you're on the 24th floor?" A dead end job. Dead parents. No friends. But at least you've got a purpose. A dream. You're going to make the best no-budget thriller anyone's ever seen. It doesn't matter that your only other actress doesn't seem to care you exist. You don't need a tripod or a microphone. The dream is what matters. One day your boss makes you take on a trainee. It's her brother. She says he's difficult. It seems like a recipe for a disaster. Instead it's something else. Your film needs an anarchist leader. Maybe your life does too. But the story's not that simple. Motivations aren't always clear, not even your own. You're not the only character. Dreams aren't always what they promise. It's getting hard to know what's real. Sometimes the stories we tell can save us, other times - MY LIFE IS A LIE is a film about friendship, betrayal, motivational speaking, freeform arts venues, toilet holes, damp pitas, fake exorcisms and the stories we tell ourselves to survive. A deconstructed mesh of indie cliches and fever dream emotions shot over 18 months on 5 cameras with a $600 budget and a cast that doubled as crew, it's not perfect but it's us. A time capsule to a difficult and rewarding part of our lives that doubles as cinematic exploration of the entwined and intangible powers of narrative and trauma.
