Frank Schuster is workaholic and is neglecting his family life.One night coming home by car he has a serious accident.Waking up in the hospital he is still thinking about his work but his spouse Veronika says him "Less is more".

Many years after she has left her home town in disgrace, Claire Zachanassian, now an unimaginably wealthy millionairess, returns. The town is on the brink of bankruptcy and the officials are hoping the old lady will come to the rescue. However, her price is high. She demands somebody deliver the dead body of the mayor of the town to her in return for financial help.

Frano, a film director, is preparing his debut feature, which will focus on women affected by the collapse of the textile industry in the region. The topic, as well as the main character, is inspired by his aunt who used to work in the industry. In order to find the star of the film, he invites three esteemed actresses to his apartment for an informal reading rehearsal. However, as soon as they realise they are competing against each other for the lead role, things take an unexpected turn.
